Located within the green surrounds of Balik Pulau, Penang, Eden at Botanica.CT Retirement Resort is a purpose-built senior living community designed around independence, connection and healthy ageing. Inspired by the successful Eden-On-The-Park Senior Lifestyle Resort in Kuching, the development brings together residential living, healthcare, wellness and community within an integrated resort environment.
The development comprises two 16-storey Active Living apartment towers and a four-storey Care Residence, with 350 residential units across a range of configurations. Together, these elements create a connected community that enables residents to live independently while having access to additional care and support as their needs evolve.
The Active Living apartments are designed to support an independent and socially engaged lifestyle, with accessible homes complemented by shared recreational, wellness and community spaces. Rather than treating these facilities as separate destinations, the planning encourages movement and interaction throughout the development, creating opportunities for residents to connect as part of everyday life.
At the heart of the design is a considered relationship between architecture and landscape. The built form responds to the natural character of Balik Pulau, with orientation, generous openings and communal spaces designed to maximise daylight, outlook and connection to the surrounding environment. Landscaped areas provide places for gathering, recreation and quieter moments of retreat, extending the experience of home beyond the individual residence.
Accessibility is embedded throughout the architecture, with intuitive circulation and carefully considered spatial planning supporting residents across different stages of ageing and mobility. The adjacent Care Residence provides long-term residential care, day programmes and outreach support, establishing a continuum of care within the broader community without compromising residents’ sense of independence.
Eden at Botanica.CT reflects a contemporary approach to senior living – one that considers ageing not simply through the provision of care, but through quality of life, social connection and a continuing sense of independence. By bringing together architecture, landscape, wellness and healthcare within a cohesive community, the project creates a place designed to support residents through every stage of later life.
