Eden at Botanica CT – Aged Care Residence

Situated within the low-density township of Botanica.CT in Balik Pulau, Eden Care Residence reimagines senior care through an architecture centred on dignity, comfort and connection to nature. Surrounded by the greenery and open landscape of Penang’s countryside, the project creates a calm, residential environment that responds equally to the practical requirements of care and the everyday experience of its residents.

Designed as a licensed care residence comprising 95 warded beds, the building brings together clinical functionality with the warmth and familiarity of home. Planning has been carefully considered to support efficient care delivery while creating spaces that are intuitive, accessible and welcoming for residents, families and staff.

The architecture draws natural light, landscape and greenery into the heart of the building. Landscaped courtyards, internal voids and communal areas create visual connections between inside and out, while resident rooms are positioned along the perimeter to maximise daylight, ventilation and outlook. These moments of connection with nature help establish a sense of openness and calm throughout the residence.

Internally, a restrained palette of warm timber tones, soft neutrals and natural greens reinforces the connection to the surrounding landscape. Curved forms, integrated joinery and carefully considered lighting soften traditionally clinical spaces, while communal areas are designed to encourage conversation, dining and social connection. From shared wards to private rooms, the interiors balance the functional requirements of healthcare with a more personal and domestic scale.

Accessibility is embedded within the architecture rather than treated as an addition. Barrier-free circulation, generous movement zones, accessible amenities and clear wayfinding support residents with varying levels of mobility, while considered spatial planning enables staff to provide care safely and efficiently.

Eden Care Residence reflects LiFE Architecture’s human-centred approach to design – creating an environment where architecture supports not only care, but quality of life. Through the integration of landscape, natural light, materiality and thoughtful planning, the project offers a contemporary model for senior living that feels connected, uplifting and distinctly non-institutional.
